Who is Leslie S. Ray?

Only child to Leslie Sr. and Hope Ray, Les grew up in Topsfield, a good student, second baseman, and one of 12 in his graduating class at Topsfield High School. He chose to attend the University of Maine, perhaps due to an early and growing affection for the state planted when his father, an engineer, was transferred to Eastport for two years when Les was a young boy.

Les always had an accomplished business mind, and has had his fingers in many businesses, not just the insurance agency that he founded. After marrying Marcia in 1952, he left his job at Liberty Mutual in Connecticut and moved home to the North Shore to try his hand in the agency business. Marcia passed away in 1993.

His young daughter and son were soon brainwashed Red Sox fans and if you buy him a beer he'll tell you that he was at the final regular season / pennant clinching Sox game in 1967 and also behind the net when Bobby Orr scored the famous Stanley Cup winning "flying goal" for the Bruins in 1970.

The family bought a very humble summer home in southern Maine and Les would spend his summer Sundays, often his only days off, boating around Sokokis Lake. He was the first in the neighborhood to have a battery powered TV so he could watch the Red Sox while drifting around the lake.

Les still acts as an advisor to the management team but is essentially retired from the insurance business. In the winter and spring he and his wife Katharine are two of the thousands of senior unpaid and unofficial scouts for the Red Sox, rarely missing a spring training game in Fort Myers.

Les’s four grandchildren are certainly unaware of his many accomplishments, some of which include:
